Can I be a surrogate mother?

by Renae
(WV)

I have one child. My pregnancy was great. I didn't have any problems. When I got put in the hospital to have my baby, the nurses checked me to see if I was dilated. When they did, I started having blood clots. My doctor decided to go ahead and have a c-section. Does this mean I shouldn't become a surrogate mother? My sister-in-law can not have a baby. I wanted to do this for them.

Having had a c-section in no way disqualifies you from becoming a surrogate mother. You would just need to keep in mind that you would most likely need another c-section for the surrogate pregnancy.

As to the blood clots, that is something you need to discuss with your doctor. Does he feel that you should not become pregnant again, or has he cleared you for another pregnancy? If you are OK to become pregnant again, so long as the clinic is OK with it, you should be fine.
