Information on Surrogacy

can my friend have baby for me

by Carrie
(Kentucky)

I am 34 years old and last year was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and as a result had to have a complete abdominal hysterectomy. I have never had children and had been trying for years. My very best friend has offered to carry a child for my husband and I, meaning her egg and my husbands sperm as they advised against harvesting my eggs at time of surgery. Is this legal, and if so how do we approach this matter. Help would be greatly apprecieated.

This is called traditional surrogacy. If you look at the links to the left of this page, you will find a tab for "traditional surrogacy" which should help you get started.

As to whether your specific friend can help you, you will need to find both an attorney to see if it is legal in your state and a doctor to see if she meets the health qualifications for surrogacy. And she must have children of her own.
