Understand that my experiences are my own, and not the same for every single surrogate mother. Each person experiences different emotions during this process.

Personally, I felt happy once the baby(ies) was born, and that feeling has never altered. I was happy that I was helping a new family get started, I was happy that the baby was healthy, and I was happy I wasn't pregnant anymore.

I have never felt sad that I wasn't taking the baby home from the hospital in any way (and neither have my kids....they were happy to have their mommy back). I've never felt attached to any of the children I have given birth to via surrogacy.

To me, it felt like an extended babysitting project. While under my care, I would do anything on earth to protect them and make sure they were healthy and happy, but when mom and dad came to pick them up, I gladly handed them back without a backwards glance.

But many surrogates feel more connected to their surrogate babies. Many feel some remorse at that chapter of their lives coming to a close, especially with the hormones that flood a woman's system after giving birth. Me? Not so much.
