Having another baby of your own after being a gestational carrier

I'm considering offering to be a gestational carrier for a friend. I have one child of my own and would like another in a few years. Is it advisable to be a gestational carrier now given that I still want to have another child of my own in the future? If not, why is that?

It is absolutely, positively, NOT advisable to become a surrogate mother before completing your own family. Do some women do it? Yes. Would I ever do it? Never.

Here's the thing. Pregnancy is risky. Anything can happen. You have the opportunity during any given pregnancy to lose your ovaries, your uterus, and your ability to carry another child. Many intended mothers have gone thorough a pregnancy before that has caused them to be unable to carry again. Thats why they need a surrogate.

And many surrogates, some without their families complete, have lost their ability to ever carry again. It is not unheard of for a former surrogate mother to become an intended mother and need a surrogate herself!

Add in the risks of a normal pregnancy the varied medications that a gestational surrogate takes, plus the risk of multiples, and you can see that there are dangers.

Don't put your family in jeopardy trying to help another family. Complete your own family first.

Best wishes!
