How Long to Wait Between Pregnancies for Surrogacy

I am due to have my first child in four weeks. Someone has contacted me about being a surrogate mother and I was wondering how long I have to wait to become pregnant again???

I love being pregnant and cant wait to have my first child. I was wondering do I have to wait a certain amount of time to become pregnant again to be a surrogate

Like most "rules" in surrogacy, there is much room for interpretation in how long you must wait from delivering one baby to getting pregnant again.

First and foremost, you must be medically cleared by your doctor to become pregnant again. Some doctors recommend 6 weeks, some 6 months, some a year. It really depends on your doctor and your physical health.

And a lot is subjective. After delivering my surrogate twins, my doctor cleared me to become pregnant again at my 6 week checkup. Of course, his partner, who delivered my next surrogate baby, recommended at least 6 months. Both deliveries were vaginal, and I was only a year older for the second delivery. And that second deliver was MUCH easier, but the doctors were different.

In addition to you personal OB/GYN, you will need to be cleared by the intended parents' clinic and IVF specialist as well.

I will say, however, make sure you fully understand surrogacy and are completely done with your own family before becoming pregnant with a baby for someone else. Too much can go wrong with surrogacy, and starting this journey without completing your own family first may result in your inability to have any future children of your own.
