How much is it to have a surrogate mother to have a baby?
So my sister is really scared on having her own baby. And i gave her the idea to have a surrogate mother. How much would it cost to go through this?
Reply by Rayven To clarify, your sister is scared to be pregnant and give birth, but has no medical need to go through surrogacy? There's a lot more to it than just the cost.
First, to answer your original question, the cost of surrogacy depends on multiple factors. Will she go traditional or gestational surrogacy? Is surrogacy legal in her state? Does she have someone to act as an altruistic surrogate for her? Will she be using an agency?
The ballpark figure for this ranges anywhere from $50,000-over $100,000 in America. Again, this is just a ballpark figure. Each circumstance is different.
But more than the price, surrogacy is not for the faint of heart. First, if she decides to go through gestational surrogacy because she is "scared", let her know she will need to be able to give herself shots and go through a medical procedure to extract her eggs.
Next, be prepared for the emotional consequences. An intended mother gives up the wonder of pregnancy, the feeling of her baby kicking inside her, the experience (not necessarily bad) of childbirth, and the control about the foods she eats, the environment she is exposed to, all in the desire to have her child by any means necessary. Its not the type of thing someone who is frightened does. Quite the contrary: you need to be very brave to undergo surrogacy.
Finally, there are many intended parents looking for surrogate mothers, but not as many surrogate mothers available to help them. Surrogacy is very personal. Surrogates and intended parents take time to get to know someone. Your sister might have a very difficult time finding a surrogate who is willing to work with her with no medical reasons for surrogacy, when there are hundreds of parents in line who have no other options.
