I know it would be cheaper if we could get a close friend or family member to do this for us but what if we cant? what all are we looking at? we are going to have to do something fast due to the fact that my husband starts chemo with in the next month...
Reply by Rayven First, I would highly suggest that you do not "do something fast". That is perhaps the worst possible thing you can do in surrogacy: jump into things.
I would suggest that you go through steps to have your husband's sperm frozen right now. Thats what the clinic will need to do in order to do surrogacy anyways, so it is really not a problem to do that now and you can wait on the surrogacy until you are more financially prepared and are at a point in your lives when chemo is over.
As to the cost of surrogacy, it is so hard to say, as many many factors contribute to the overall price.
Will you end up with a friend or family member helping you? Will you gestational or traditional surrogacy? Will the transfer work the first time? Will your surrogate have health insurance? Will she end up pregnant with multiples?
Too many factors to give a set price. I can say that you are looking at $50,000 on the very low side, with perhaps either a traditional surrogacy or a gestational surrogacy with a friend or family member to upwards of $100,000 with a typical gestational surrogacy.
