Information on Surrogacy

I had the Essure procedure...but can I carry if I decided to have more children?

by Erika
(Wayne, Michigan)

I had the Essure procedure done 4 years ago...thinking that I would not want more children (I have 10 years old boy and girl twins), so with this said, I'm now wondering if I could carry a baby even though I can't conceive!

I'm now dating and the question has been asked if I would be open to "alternative options" to conceive or maybe carry, I don't know?

Does anyone out there know the answer to this?

Erika,

Are you asking if you are eligible to become a surrogate mother having had the Essure procedure?

Honestly, it is still a very new procedure, so you will need to speak with your doctor. Since it block the ovaries, it sounds as though it would not be a problem. You would only be eligible as a gestational surrogate, not as a traditional surrogate.

One thing I will mention; you are from Michigan. It is illegal to accept compensation for surrogacy in Michigan, and is one of the worst states to do surrogacy. You will have a difficult time finding intended parents to work with.
