i really want to be one but i have a medical card i loved being pregnant and giving birth and i had it really easy i really want to do it for someone that cant themselves also i wanted to know if you could meet the family first and then decide if you wanted to do it or if you just get assigned a family?
Reply by Rayven If you are a surrogate mother, and are compensated, then you will NOT qualify for any government program, including your medical card. So you'd need to give up your medical card for yourself, and quite probably your own children in order to help another family.
You absolutely meet the family before you decide to work with them. Surrogacy is not an anonymous process; it is very personal the entire time.

Nothing is certain by: Rayven from Information on Surrogacy
Another good reason why you're not allowed to be on government assistance is because nothing is certain with surrogacy. If you are in need of the money, and it takes 6 months, 1 year, or 2 years to ever arrive, this can cause financial devastation to your own family. Sometimes the compensation never materializes at all, yet a surrogate mother has given 1-2 years of her life to help (unsuccessfully) another couple. Too many "what-ifs".
