Traditional Surrogacy in Florida

by Amandia
(Jacksonville, FL)

Hi,
I have a friend who has volunteered to be a Traditional Surrogate for me and my husband. The problem is, I don't know how to get started. I called my fertility clinic and they said they wouldn't help us, that it's too risky and illegal in Florida. I called an attorney and was told he wouldn't help us either for the same reasons. What can I do? thanks

Traditional surrogacy IS allowed in Florida, and there are actually laws on the books for it.

In Florida, it is called "pre-planned adoption". There are many attorneys across the state who do work with traditional surrogacy. My attorney, Matt Brown, has represented me through three gestational surrogacy arrangements. His phone number is 904-981-8800. If he does not work in traditional surrogacy (I'm not sure) he can point you in the right direction.

Cost
by: Anonymous

First, let me ask you if you're doing Traditional or Gestational? The cost will differ based on that.
We were considering the traditional. We estimated the following costs:
sperm (collection and cleaning) - $100
inseminating surrogate - $400 + (this will be based on number of ultrasounds, fertility meds if used, hcg shot if necessary, and insemination). If it takes the first time, great. If not, be prepared to add this cost again.
Maternity Care - all doctor and hospital visits, and medications. Not sure if your surrogate has health insurance or if it would cover any of this. I was estimating about $100 per trip and average of one trip per month for 8 months, then about $1000 for the hospital delivery. I tried to overestimate rather than under.
Finally, the attorney fees. We planned to draft up most of the preplanned adoption document and then submit it to the attorney. Attorney's charge by the hour, so the less work they have to do the better. We were estimating about $600. Again, that's just an estimate.

Nothing In Jacksonville But....
by: Anonymous

Sort of. I found an attorney in Orlando who is willing to help and who gave me the name of doctors in Orlando who would do the insemination. However, no one in Jacksonville was willing to help.

Matt Brown
by: Anonymous

I actually did call Matt Brown. He refused to work with me because it's a traditional surrogacy. If anyone has any ideas on who to turn to, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. :)
