what precautions do I need to take if my sister is my surrogate?
I am completely fine with my sister being my surrogate. I want to as she does not work as she has 3 children of her own 2 in school and an 13 month old. I am concerned more with the costs to me and my husband

The first thing I'm going to caution you on is the fact that you will still need an attorney. More to make sure all the legal precautions are taken in your state than anything else. And as this is a family, sister to sister situation, you will only need one attorney.
The costs will be the same as with any other surrogacy, minus the fee of one attorney, the fees an agency would charge you (you do not need an agency for anything) and a reduced or eliminated surrogate compensation fee. Most sister to sister surrogacies do not involve compensation.
Having said that, however, make sure you are not unintentionally causing your sister a financial burden. If her husband loses work for a surrogacy related issue, for example, make sure you reimburse them their lost wages.
So you will still need to pay for:
-One attorney -Court costs for birth certificate, etc -Clinic fees, medications -All uncovered medical expenses -Misc costs of a pregnancy
Other than that, you should be good! What a wonderful sister you have!

ALWAYS do a contract by: Rayven from Information on Surrogacy
You always need to contact a lawyer and do a contract for surrogacy. It doesn't matter if this is your sister. What matters is what the courts will say. You need to make sure you cross all your "t"s and dot all you "i"s. This is YOUR baby. While I realize surrogacy is expensive, this is NOT the place to trim! Since it's your sister, you could probably get away with having just one lawyer if that is comfortable to all parties and legal in your state.

Contract by: Chiquita
Do I have to have a contract if my sister is going to be my surrogate? Can't we just have the procedure done without it? It cost alot of money.

Hope it all works out! by: Rayven from Information on Surrogacy
The best possible situation in surrogacy is to have a sister or family member carry for you. You are so fortunate to have one. Best wishes to you!
