Who will the baby look like?

If I get a surrogate mother to carry my eggs and deliver my baby will the baby look like me or her?

I need to know will my baby look like me and the person who's sperm I am using or if it will look like a combination of all of us.

Surrogacy can be a pretty complex topic, and needs to be research thoroughly before a decision is made to proceed.

The term you are looking for is a "gestational surrogate". This is a woman who carries an embryo created from the egg and sperm of the intended parents, or from the intended father and an egg donor.

Its important to realize that eggs and sperm are not placed into a gestational surrogate mother. An embryo is created in a laboratory with the intended mothers eggs and intended fathers sperm, and that embryo (or embryos) is transferred into the surrogate. The embryo's DNA is determined before it enters the surrogate.

THE GESTATIONAL SURROGATE IS IN NO WAY RELATED TO THE BABY.

Only two people's DNA are used to create any child. There is no such thing as two moms contributing DNA and one dad. It is not possible. One woman's egg and one man's sperm create one baby. A baby's DNA cannot be a product of three separate DNA providers.

The baby will be related to the contributors of DNA, not the gestational surrogate mother. As far as who the child will look like, there is really not an answer to this. The surrogate mother could have brown hair while both intended parents were blondes. If the baby has brown hair, its not because of the surrogate, but rather the genes the baby inherited from her parents.

Again, let me stress that with gestational surrogacy, the surrogate mother is in no way related to the baby, and will share no DNA with the baby. Case in point, an African American surrogate could give birth to a baby via gestational surrogacy from a Caucasian couple, and the baby would not be "black". Or a Caucasian surrogate could give birth to a baby from an Asian American couple and the baby would not be "white". The baby will resemble his parents, not his surrogate.

Hope this helps!

I have no idea who posted the comment "if the baby the surrogate mother delivered is a female" but that has to be the silliest thing I have heard all day. The gender of the baby has nothing to do with it. It all has to do with who donated the eggs; the surrogate, the intended mother, or an egg donor.

Surrogates DNA influence on development of fetuses eggs
by: Anonymous

I have been told the babies eggs (so my grandchildren) pull from the surrogates DNA. The grandchildren could therefore look much more like the surrogate since the eggs are developed in womb and draw from the surrogates DNA. What are your thoughts on this?
