Books from the Surrogacy Community

The surrogacy community is made up of individuals in all walks of life. Luckily, there are several writers among us! Learn tips on surrogate motherhood from those who have actually walked in these shoes. Book reviews included.

The best way to truly get a feel for this process is to read stories from the intended parents and surrogate mothers who have actually been there. The book “Surrogacy Was the Way: Twenty Intended Mothers Tell Their Stories” does just that.

The author, Zara Griswold, herself an intended mother, tells the stories of 20 intended mothers who used a surrogate mother to start or complete their family.

These are real stories and real women in the surrogacy community. They’re not politically correct, and they don’t paint infertility leading to finding a surrogate as an everything’s-happy, peaches-and-cream scenario.

Because that’s not what it is.

This book is a must read for anyone who is considering a journey, not just as an intended parent, but as a surrogate mother as well. It’s very hard for us surrogates to truly understand what our intended mothers have gone through. Remember, we’re the surrogate because pregnancy is easy for us! We’re sympathetic, and we care very much, but we’ll never totally “get it”. –we can’t!

All we can do is try and remember at all times that this strange situation is not easy, and every party involved is going through completely different emotions. Zara’s book helps to realize those emotions.
